According to the ADAC, anyone traveling by car next weekend must be prepared for drastic delays: With the start of the summer holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, one of the “worst traffic jam weekends” is imminent. The club advises vacationers to alternative travel dates.
The ADAC has warned of one of the “worst traffic jam weekends” of the summer season. With the start of the summer holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg and the second wave of travel from Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and the south of the Netherlands, numerous delays threatened, said the automobile club in Munich. In addition, many travelers from Scandinavia, North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are on their way home.
The traffic experts expect the most traffic jams for the coming Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. “If you don’t want to be stuck in a permanent traffic jam, you should think about an alternative travel date during the week, for example Tuesday or Wednesday,” recommended the ADAC.
The usual traffic jams within Germany to the North Sea and Baltic Sea or in the mountains are particularly affected. In the direction of foreign countries, it is the routes in the direction of Italy, Croatia or the coasts of France. In Austria, another special feature is that additional traffic volume is to be expected along the Inntal, Tauern and Brenner autobahns due to the blocking of alternative routes. Waiting times of at least 60 minutes should be planned at the borders of neighboring European countries.
The travel summer will again be as full of traffic jams as it was before the start of the corona pandemic, the ADAC announced: “Home and camping holidays have been very popular for years, which is clearly noticeable on the trunk roads and access roads to the mountains and lakes. ” Thanks to the abolition of corona measures, car trips to neighboring countries are also possible again without any problems.
