The Federation of Radio and Television Organizations or Entities (FORTA) has appointed Francisco González Orejas, general director of Radiotelevision of the Principality of Asturias (RTPA), as the new president of the entity. González Orejas will hold the presidency of FORTA until July of this year, a period during which the 35th anniversary of the Federation, created in 1989, will be commemorated.
Graduated in Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid and Doctor cum laude in Hispanic Philology, he has more than three decades of experience as a screenwriter, producer and manager of audiovisual companies.
After working as an editor and columnist in different newspapers and magazines, he has been head of programs and head of the information services of TVE in Asturias (1984-1989), managing director of the Program Production Company of the Principality of Asturias (1989-2014). and director of Production and Exploitation of RTPA (2014-2019).
He is the author of more than a hundred scripts for film and television, director of documentary series and debate spaces, and executive producer of different programs. Some of his works have been awarded by the Zaragoza Scientific Film Biennial, the Spanish Energy Club, the University of Oviedo and the Ministry of Defense.
He has published several books of fiction and essays. He coordinated the professional course Creation of content in multimedia contexts and has participated as a teacher in the Master’s degree Expert in Writing and Production of Television Programs at the University of Oviedo, as well as in different university courses on film history, new TV formats, documentation and script. Since March 2019 he has been general director of the Radio and Television of the Principality of Asturias (RTPA).
The new president has shown his willingness to work, together with the rest of the members of the FORTA General Board, to address the future challenges of the federation and the public media that comprise it, among which innovation, adaptation to framework that prefigures digitalization, technological development and multimedia strategy. And this in a context in which artificial intelligence is called to play a role of increasing relevance and, at the same time, must be faced with the increasingly less latent threats posed by disinformation and threats to the cybersecurity of the media.
Francisco González Orejas succeeds Mariano Caballero (RTRM), who has presided over the Federation for the last six months. The General Board of FORTA has appreciated his dedication and effort and highly valued his work in this period.
