“Our objective is within 10 years to be able to renovate 40,000-44,000 schools in this way, and therefore to support municipalities, departments, regions, depending on the level, in this work” which will also be based on a educational project, assured the Head of State during a visit to the Daniel-Argote college in Orthez (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).
A major renovation plan for the 49,000 schools in France, or 50 million m², was launched on May 9 by the government, while only 10% to 15% of the stock was subject to thermal renovation. This project is valued at 40 billion euros to achieve the objective of reducing energy consumption by 40% by 2030.
Announced a year ago, the green fund, amounting to two billion euros, aims to help local authorities for the financing of projects in the fields of environmental performance, adaptation of the territory to climate change and improving the living environment. The government has already dipped into it for forest firefighting or low emission zones. The school renovation program also benefits from the aid of the Banque des Territoires, which has pledged to lend two billion euros for works by 2027.
