The departments of La Manche, Ille-et-Vilaine, Côtes-d’Armor and Finistère were placed on Wednesday August 2 in the morning in orange vigilance “waves-submersion” by Météo-France. Linked to the depression called Patricia, a very unusual gale for the season, associated with strong waves in a context of high tides, concerns Brittany and the Channel coasts, warned the meteorological service.
According to Metéo-France, Patricia “generates strong gusts in the north of the country, particularly on the coast”: the organization recorded before 4 p.m. gusts of 100 km/h in Sibril, 93 km/h in Quimper, 89 km/h h in Brest – three municipalities in Finistère – or 94 km / h in Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique).
“Associated with these strong winds, the state of the sea amplifies in the second part of the day, with a maximum of waves expected for the high seas in the evening and at night on the Atlantic coast and the English Channel”, writes Meteo again. -France in its bulletin of vigilance. “In this period of high tourist traffic, it will be necessary to be very careful for any nautical activity and to avoid the coastal paths”, recommends the organization.
