At the weekend in Oldenburg, the top four for the BBL Cup will take place. Everything went wrong for Bayern Munich in the dress rehearsal, and the runners-up have been completely unnerved for some time. The other three teams, on the other hand, win their games.

Bayern Munich completely botched its dress rehearsal for the Top Four for the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) Cup. The runner-up lost in their own hall to the Veolia Towers from Hamburg after a largely disappointing performance with 70:89 (34:53). Bayern have lost five of the last six games in all competitions.

“That wasn’t the energy we need. We have to look at our own noses,” said Bayern professional Niels Giffey at MagentaSport: “We’ll put our heads together and talk.” Coach Andrea Trinchieri was served: “There are no words to describe this performance. We don’t deserve these fans who support us so well despite being 25 points down at home.”

The Bavarians, on Saturday evening at the tournament in Oldenburg (7.30 p.m. / MagentaSport) semi-final opponent of the defending champion Alba Berlin, completely messed up the start in the Audi Dome. It was 19:41 (12th minute) shortly after the start of the second quarter, Munich didn’t find their way into the game at all.

Even if the hosts managed a little more in the second half and the gap shrank at times, Hamburg and their top scorer James Woodard (22 points) always found an answer. The best thrower from Munich was national player Andreas Obst (15).

In the meantime, semi-final opponent Alba won with a lot of effort 91:85 (43:40) at the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim, and the MHP giants Ludwigsburg also regained their self-confidence before being awarded the first title of the season. At medi Bayreuth, the guests won 108:94 (56:43). The giants will face EWE Baskets Oldenburg in the first cup semi-final on Saturday (4 p.m./both MagentaSport). The top four hosts beat the Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt 87:79 (46:41).
