Senior Robert Melise and junior Brian Meyer brought home NJSIAA Region 3 wrestling gold for Phillipsburg on Saturday at West Orange High School.

Hackettstown junior Alex Carida was the other local to bring home a championship.

Melise of Phillipsburg pinned Sam Mellow of Montclair in 58 seconds to win the 220-pound title. With the pin, Melise set the single-season pins record at Phillipsburg with his 28th of the winter. The senior was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Meyer won a 3-1 decision over Garrett Beam of Queen of Peace to win the 145-pound title.

Carida earned a 5-1 decision over Sean Conley of Hanover Park to win gold at 138.

Phillipsburg’s Cullen Day (106 pounds), Hackettstown’s Joe Andes (285) and Warren Hills’ Jarod Ostir (170) fell in their finals.
