The Secretary of State for Equality, Ángela Rodríguez ‘PaM’, has once again sparked controversy on social networks after an interview on TV3. On this occasion, she made some of her statements about the importance of sexual education to fight against machismo in which she detracts from learning mathematics.
“Something as simple as treating well is good and treating badly is bad, they don’t teach us at school. We learn to do square roots… I don’t know if square roots are useful for you. Not me. However However, we did not learn that consent is fundamental in sexual relations and this is a key element in our lives,” he commented during the interview.
Their lack of sensitivity to a key subject for the development of young people has caused many users to complain on social networks about what they consider a step backwards in the “fight for girls to understand and learn mathematics on an equal basis with boys”.
“Giving the example of mathematics is mistreating education”, has opined for his part the mathematician Santi García-Cremades, who despite being “fundamentally in agreement” with ‘Pam’, considers that “maths give you a critical attitude, reasoned and abstract. “Whether we make fun of what is useful or not, we can ridicule almost all education,” he emphasized.
Other Twitter users have also criticized the statements of the Secretary of State for Equality, saying that by this rule of thumb we should eliminate English subjects or calculations from the classrooms since there are tools that can perform their functions for us.
