Weissewarte (dpa/sa) – The processing of the Weissewarte wildlife park (Stendal district) is progressing rapidly. Of a total of 350 animals, 60 percent have already been given to new hands. For almost everyone else there are interested parties. On Saturday, the largest resident left the park. The wapiti deer Hermann has found a new home in the Serengeti Park Hodenhagen. “Now the captain is leaving,” said Thomas Wamser, whose Tipada Group is responsible for caring for and handing over the livestock, when saying goodbye.
The animal, which weighs around 350 kilograms, first had to be demobilized for expert transport. This required two anesthetic doses, which were applied by veterinarian Venna König using a blowpipe and air pressure gun. In Hodenhagen, the newcomer will initially spend two weeks in quarantine before being allowed to go outside. “He’ll have a lot of fun there with nine girls,” said the vet. The previous head of the herd there had died.
At the same time, two emus went on the journey to Lower Saxony. The capture of these stately ratites was also without excitement and complications. The Wapiti females and a young deer from Weissewarte would be housed in other zoological facilities, Wamser said.
Saxony-Anhalt’s once largest wildlife park has been closed since the end of last year. The animal population is dissolved. The delivery is free of charge. Interested parties must, however, prove their ability to keep the respective species. According to an order from the Stendal district, the site must be “swept clean” by the end of June 2023. The end of the largest game park in Saxony-Anhalt comes in the 50th year of its existence.
The unified municipality of Tangerhütte is the owner of the area and has tried in vain to preserve the wildlife park with various concepts in recent years. The complex, which includes a large playground and utilities, should not be abandoned to decay. At the beginning of March, the operation of the park will be put out to tender again, said Mayor Andreas Brohm (independent). On a smaller scale, he relies on a “wildlife park reloaded”.
