Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Alcohol often plays a role in accidents on the roads of Baden-Württemberg. Beer, wine, schnapps or a similar drink were involved in more than 1,600 of the more than 30,200 accidents with injuries or fatalities, which is almost five percent of the cases, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday in Stuttgart. On average, people who were drunk or intoxicated in an accident with injuries or deaths had about 1.6 per thousand alcohol as a result. According to the State Office, men clearly dominate the statistics: they make up 86 percent of those involved who had been drinking before the accident.
Not surprisingly, there are days of the week when the police have to record more accidents of this type. Almost every second crash under the influence of alcohol and with injuries or deaths (48 percent) happened on a Saturday (453 accidents) or Sunday (330).
