Dogern (dpa / lsw) – Customs officers and an angler rescued a man and his dog from a flooded water shaft near the Rhine near Dogern (Waldshut district). The dog jumped into a water channel and was washed into a shaft by the current, as the main customs office announced on Friday. The dog owner jumped into the pool to save the dog. Apart from an underground concrete tube, there was no other way out of the shaft. The man and his dog could not get out of the shaft on their own.
An angler heard the cries for help on Wednesday and was able to secure the man with a makeshift rope. When the angler went to get help, two customs officials noticed him. They alerted the rescue workers and managed to get the dog dry. The dog owner was also rescued from the shaft with a ladder from the fire brigade.
