Bischofsheim (dpa/lhe) – After a World War II bomb was found in Bischofsheim (Groß-Gerau district), evacuation measures are currently underway. “All residents should leave their homes by nine,” said a spokesman for the district on Tuesday morning. An estimated 3,500 people are affected.

According to the information, surrounding buildings within a radius of 1000 meters must be evacuated. The exclusion zone includes a commercial area in Bischofsheim and a residential area in Rüsselsheim.

People are currently being informed via warning apps on cell phones, notifications via social media and loudspeaker announcements, it said. A citizen telephone is switched on under the telephone number 06152/989898.

According to the spokesman for the district, emergency accommodation was set up in a comprehensive school in Rüsselsheim. “The controlled demolition should then take place during the course of the day. Exactly when is still unclear.” The 250-kilogram bomb was discovered during construction work in the commercial area.
