Schimm (dpa/mv) – The police in Northwest Mecklenburg are looking for young suspected arsonists who are said to have set fire to a motorway and thus obstructed traffic. As a police spokesman said on Friday, the two slim men aged 16 to 20 were seen south of Wismar on an A14 bridge near the town of Schimm. Below the bridge, over which a country road runs, there was a major fire on the embankment on Wednesday evening, which firefighters had to extinguish.
A motorist saw the suspects drop something from the bridge onto the dried-up shoulders of the A14. Then it burned. The suspects ran away. Due to the extinguishing work, traffic on the A14 between the Wismar motorway junction and the Jesendorf junction in the direction of Schwerin was temporarily obstructed.
The suspects are said to be about 1.70 meters tall, one of them was completely dark and the second was wearing a yellow shirt. So far they have not been found, as it was said. The criminal police are investigating because of intentional arson.
