Cologne (dpa / lnw) – 1. FC Köln has to do without several professionals after the hard-fought duel with VfB Stuttgart (0-0). As the Bundesliga soccer team announced on Monday, Jeff Chabot and Benno Schmitz suffered ankle injuries. Defensive player Chabot has already had surgery and is out for a long time. The injury suffered by fellow defender Schmitz can be treated conservatively.
In addition, midfielder Eric Martel suffered a broken middle hand. In this case, the team doctors want to coordinate further action with a hand specialist. A diagnosis is still pending for Mathias Olesen, who is also ailing.
According to FC Managing Director Christian Keller, the club wants to react quickly to the new shortage of personnel: “The injuries have created a new situation. We will explore the transfer market in the next few days and see whether we can make sense again on the defensive will strengthen.”
