Jay Pickett, an actor, producer, and known for his roles in “Port Charles” (General Hospital), died Friday at the set of “Treasure Valley,” his upcoming film. He was 60.
Pickett was a star and producer on the film. Pickett’s official Facebook page announced Pickett’s passing on Sunday. It stated that Pickett had died while filming a scene in Idaho.
Travis Mills, the film’s director wrote that there is no official explanation for his death, but it appeared to have been a cardiac attack. “Everyone tried their best to save him. We are devastated and grieve for his loved ones.
Pickett was born in Spokane on February 10, 1961. He began his acting career in late ’80s, with appearances on television shows like “Rags to Riches”, and “China Beach.” Pickett made his breakthrough in 1991 when he was cast as Dr. Chip Lakin in the soap opera “Days of Our Lives.” He then appeared in 34 episodes of that series.
Pickett built his career in soap opera, appearing as Frank Scanlon from 1997 to 2003 on “General Hospital”. Pickett then appeared on “General Hospital”, where he was a sub-star as Lorenzo Alcazar (2006) and Detective David Harper (2007).
Pickett guest starred on “Dexter,” “Queen Sugar,” “Desperate Housewives” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.” He also wrote, produced, and starred as Pickett in “Soda Springs”, a 2012 feature.
Jay was an extraordinary man, as many of us already know. Mills wrote that Jay was kind, sweet and generous. He was one of my favorite actors and it was an honor working with him. Everybody who had the chance to meet him could feel his warmth and his amazing spirit, even if only for a moment.
“It is hard to find the words to say more. Many of his closest friends said that he was happy working in Treasure Valley. I hope that this is true. He loved what he did: acting, riding horses and making movies. He was a marvel.”
Pickett’s wife Elena and their three children are his survivors.
