The United Nations Interim Force for Lebanon (UNIFIL) is investigating an attack against positions of its Spanish battalion in Lebanon that has left no victims to regret, its spokesperson, Andrea Tenenti, has confirmed to the official Lebanese news agency NNA.
The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday in the eastern sector of the Abl el Qahm wheat plain, according to security sources to the newspaper L’Orient le Jour.
An observation tower at the post was damaged, but there are no reports of casualties among UN peacekeeping personnel, the spokesperson told the official Lebanese news agency, without giving further details of what happened at the moment.
The peace mission in the so-called blue line that separates Lebanon from Israel has 650 Spaniards, the majority belonging to the Parachute Brigade.
