The Court of Instruction number 5 of Vigo has decreed this Saturday the entry into provisional prison with notification and without bail for the former member of the terrorist organization GRAPO detained in Vigo for shooting another man during an argument in a dog park.

The judge keeps Manuel Baña Gil, 69, under investigation for attempted homicide or threats, pending confirmation throughout the investigation if the shots were really intended to intimidate and were directed at the other person; and also for illegal possession of weapons.

Manuel Baña Gil has a police record linked to the terrorist organization GRAPO and police sources consider him a “history” of the gang. He was even in prison for links to these terrorist activities in the 80s.

This man was arrested on Thursday evening because he got into a gunfight in a dog park in Castrelos, in the city of Vigo, against another man with whom he was having an argument related to his dogs. Both were there with their dogs and a confrontation began.

The other person involved is a 28-year-old young man who told the Vigo Local Police that it all started around 6:40 p.m. on Thursday because he blamed the aggressor for having two dogs loose, without a leash. It was not the first time that arguments occurred between the two for this same reason.

According to sources from the National Police of Vigo, at one point during the argument, this man took up a firearm and fired twice, although he did not hit the other person. When the former Grapo took out the weapon, the victim took refuge behind a tree and from there he felt the two detonations, saving himself from the impact. One of the shots fired hit a tree.

The first to arrive at the scene were agents from the Vigo Local Police, who cordoned off the area and proceeded to locate and arrest this man in the vicinity of the dog park. The National Police then took over the investigation, which already sent the Scientific Police to the scene and then put the investigation in the hands of the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV).
