Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel (35) will surprisingly end his career at the end of the current season. He shared this in a video post on Instagram and also provided the reasons for his decision in the clip: “I love this sport. It has been at the center of my life for as long as I can remember. But there is my life on the track and my life off the track. Being a racer was never my only identity.”
He is not only a racing driver, but also “Sebastian, father of three children and husband of a wonderful woman.” As a perfectionist, his profession goes hand in hand more than ever “with a great deal of time”. “Time I want to spend with my family. The energy it takes to become one with the car and the team requires focus and effort.” That level of dedication to the sport and being a “good father and husband no longer go together for me.”
Vettel has three children, two daughters and a son, with his wife Hann. He wants to “see them grow up, pass on my values ??to them, listen to them and not have to say goodbye anymore.”
At the same time, the career as a Formula 1 driver “brings out things that I no longer like. […] Talking is no longer enough and we can’t afford to wait. There is no alternative. The race has already started .” Vettel has provided his video with the hashtag “There Is Still A Race To Win”, and he has been campaigning against climate change and sustainability for some time on his homepage.
The current racing team of the youngest world champion to date, Aston Martin, also announced Vettel’s decision on Instagram. Regarding a series of pictures by Vettel, the post says, among other things: “Sebastian Vettel will end his Formula 1 career at the end of the 2022 season and thus one of the greatest careers in the history of the sport.”
In 2010, at the age of just 23, Vettel became the youngest Formula 1 world champion in history. In the three years that followed, he managed to successfully defend his title – a feat that only three other drivers have managed to do alongside him.
