So, like, Jake Asbury, who’s 18 and from Mount Olive, was totally killin’ it on the baseball field against Montville at Mount Olive High School in Mount Olive, NJ on Monday, May 15, 2023. Tom Horak was there snappin’ pics for NJ Advance Media.
I mean, Jake Asbury was on fire, man. He had three RBI, went 2-for-3 with a walk, and even scored a run. Mount Olive, seeded fourth, took down 12th-seeded Hanover Park with a score of 8-7 in the Morris County Tournament quarterfinals in Flanders.
And get this, Justin Bullock was also crushin’ it, going 3-for-4 and scoring two runs for Mount Olive (13-4). Peter Zoccolillo and David Harmon each chipped in with a run and an RBI in the win. Mount Olive has won six of their last seven games, so they’re on a roll.
The game was pretty intense, but Max Wood came in clutch and picked up the win in 1.2 innings of relief. He struck out three batters and only allowed an unearned run, one hit, one walk, and even hit a batsman. Ouch.
Mount Olive is set to face top-seeded Delbarton, who’s won the championship five times in a row, in the semifinals on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Fleury Field. It’s gonna be a showdown, for sure.
Hanover Park, on the other hand, falls to 9-7. Tough break for them, but that’s how the game goes sometimes.
