CLEVELAND, Ohio — George Rodrigue, the editor and general manager of The Plain Dealer, has been named president of the Plain Dealer Publishing Co.
Rodrigue remains editor of The Plain Dealer, a position he took in January of 2015. During his time at the paper the newsroom has won national recognition for design, for innovative digital storytelling, and for investigative stories that highlight solutions to important local problems. The Plain Dealer also has been named the best newspaper in Ohio.
“I try to represent the paper well, to look out for the best interests of our employees and our readers, and to coordinate all the local things that make a newspaper successful,” Rodrigue said. “That means everything from helping advertisers work with us to helping our news, production, and circulation teams get a great paper to our readers, on time, in the morning. The Plain Dealer is operated by Plain Dealer Publishing Co. Prior to joining The Plain Dealer, Rodrigue worked as assistant news director of WFAA-TV in Dallas and as managing editor of The Dallas Morning News. Earlier, he served as chief of Belo Corp.’s Washington Bureau and as executive editor of The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, California. He also worked as a Washington correspondent and as a foreign correspondent, in Europe and the Middle East. As a reporter, he won a Pulitzer Prize for national reporting and was a member of a team that won the prize for international reporting.
He and his wife, Wendy Meyer, live in Shaker Heights.
