Rostock (dpa/mv) – Around two months after her election victory, the left-wing politician Eva-Maria Kröger will take office as the new mayor of Rostock on Wednesday. The long-standing member of the citizenship and state parliament is the first woman to be elected to the office. The 40-year-old took her oath of office on January 18 in the citizenship.
On this occasion, she expressly offered the citizenship a good cooperation. The people of Rostock wanted a good relationship between the citizens and the mayor. That means that you deal with each other constructively and critically, not that you always agree.
On November 27, Kröger prevailed in a run-off election with a lead of almost 17 percentage points against her competitor, the non-party Michael Ebert, who is supported by the CDU/UFR and FDP. Her term of office is seven years. She is the successor to Claus Ruhe Madsen, who, after only three years in office, moved to Schleswig-Holstein as Economics Minister in Daniel Günther’s (CDU) cabinet in June last year.
