So, like, Officer Jared Desalvo from the NYPD Harbor Unit went ahead and adopted this cute little dog he saved from the East River. The dog, now called Hudson, was struggling in the water until Desalvo swooped in to rescue her. It all went down on May 10, 2025, in New York City, in case you were wondering.

Desalvo was all like, “I’m giving her a second chance, you know? She’ll fit right in with the family.” His two kids, Salvatore and Stella, had no idea they were getting a new furry sibling until they showed up at the shelter. They thought they were going to a party or something. Kids, right?

The whole rescue mission happened back in March when Desalvo and his fellow officers spotted the dog paddling away near the South Street Seaport. The poor thing was wearing a pink harness but had no collar or tags. They named her Hudson, even though they found her in the East River. Go figure, huh? Anyway, the dog was in good health, just a little waterlogged. Desalvo’s wife wanted to adopt her right away, but rules are rules, I guess.

Fast forward a bit, and now Hudson is part of the Desalvo family. They even got her some toys, but she’s more interested in hanging out with Bocce, their older Boston Terrier. Oh, and fun fact, Desalvo’s wife was all for adopting Hudson from the get-go. But hey, that’s life for you.
