Rangers Manager Clement Discusses Dessers Bid and Player Futures

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed that the club recently rejected a bid from Atlanta United for Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers. The reported £4.6m offer was turned down by the Scottish side, with Clement stating that they could not afford to let Dessers go for that amount.

In a recent press conference, Clement explained the club’s decision, saying, “We can only let players go if for that amount you can find better. Or you can find two for example, one in the same position and one in another position. Otherwise you work backwards. That’s not the idea.”

He went on to praise Dessers for his commitment to the club, stating, “He loves to play for Rangers. He loves the shirt and he wants to die for the shirt. He’s just a really good striker and a really good team player.”

Uncertainty Over Player Futures

While Clement expressed his desire to keep Dessers at the club, he also acknowledged that every player has their price. He stated, “If somebody comes with a bid that’s big enough, then almost everybody can go. It’s like that. That’s the situation.”

The manager emphasized the importance of finding suitable replacements if any players were to leave, saying, “If you can replace them by at least the same quality, then you can do other things. So I don’t know. I will see at the end of the week.”

Clement admitted that while he does not expect any major departures, he remains open to the possibility, adding, “I don’t expect it, but I don’t want to be naive also. But then we need to have another solution that’s better, of course.”

Player Loyalty and Club Commitment

Clement highlighted Dessers’ loyalty to the club and his positive impact on the team, stating, “He was one of the guys who was fighting hard for the club and for the team. He deserves a lot of praise for his dedication and performance.”

The manager also addressed the challenges of balancing player transfers with the need to maintain a competitive squad, saying, “The shorter you go to the 1st of September, the less chance there is because you need to find also a good replacement.”

Overall, Clement’s comments reflect the complexities of managing a football squad in the midst of transfer speculation and financial considerations. While the club values its players and their contributions, difficult decisions may need to be made to ensure the team’s success in the long term.
