The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is set to have a new slot in the 2025 MotoGP calendar, moving to late May. This change was announced at this year’s British GP, with the event scheduled to take place on 23-25 May at Silverstone. The decision to move the British GP to May is part of a revamped race calendar for MotoGP, aiming to attract more fans by holding the event outside of the British summer holidays period.
Since 2013, the British GP has been taking place in early August at Silverstone, but it previously had a late August slot. Between 2010-2012, the British GP was held at a late June date. Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, expressed excitement about celebrating the British GP at a different time of year, giving more British fans the opportunity to attend the event. He highlighted MotoGP’s positive growth in audiences and crowds worldwide, emphasizing the importance of providing the British GP with a platform to play a bigger role in this trend.
The new schedule for the British MotoGP round will now coincide with the Formula 1 Monaco GP and the Indianapolis 500 next year. Silverstone CEO Stuart Pringle assured fans that they won’t have to wait long for their next British GP experience, promising another weekend filled with MotoGP action, live music, stunt shows, and more exciting activities.
In addition to the British GP changes, MotoGP recently announced a contract with the Uttar Pradesh state government to bring back the Indian GP in 2025. The Indian GP will now host the second round of the season after the Qatar GP, moving from its previous September slot to mid-March. This adjustment aims to address concerns about harsh weather conditions that affected riders during the 2023 race at the Buddh International Circuit.
