BDO, an accountancy and advisory firm, is offering 34 new trainee positions in its Leeds office for the 2025 trainee cohort. These positions are available for school leaver apprenticeships, graduates, and university students on a 12-month industrial placement. The application deadline is 5th January 2025, and successful candidates will join the firm in September 2025.

In addition to these opportunities, BDO is committed to improving access to the accountancy field. They will also be opening applications for summer work experience and insight programs later in the year. One such program is ‘Explore BDO,’ a three-day insight program aimed at enhancing social mobility and providing a glimpse into a career in accountancy for students in years 12-13 from less privileged backgrounds.

Moreover, BDO will be recruiting for its Black Heritage program, which is designed for first-year university students across the UK. These initiatives are crucial in diversifying the talent pool in the industry and providing opportunities for those who may not have considered a career in accountancy.

Gareth Singleton, the Regional Managing Partner at BDO in Yorkshire & the North East, emphasized the importance of investing in the next generation of professionals and providing various entry routes into the profession. By offering school leaver apprenticeships, BDO aims to improve access to the accountancy field in the region and kickstart fulfilling careers for young individuals.

Rachel Jackson, a tax trainee at BDO’s Leeds office, shared her positive experience with the Explore BDO program and apprenticeship. For Rachel, opting for an apprenticeship provided real-world experience right after school, leading to a respected professional qualification without incurring student debt. She highlighted the value of programs like Explore BDO in gaining insights into the firm and making informed career decisions.

Overall, BDO’s commitment to early career opportunities not only benefits the individuals who join the firm but also contributes to diversifying and strengthening the talent pool in the accountancy industry. By providing a range of entry routes and insight programs, BDO is paving the way for a more inclusive and dynamic workforce in Yorkshire and the North East.
