Rance conference
Donald Trump was there. Jair Bolsonaro too. Ted Cruz had made the trip. Steve Bannon wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Just like former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, columnist Candace Owens… From March 1 to 4, the elite of the American reactionary right gathered in Fort Washington, Maryland, on the occasion of the Conservative political action conference (CPAC), for several days of speeches, debates and good laughs. Evidenced by these two men, happily drinking, dressed in sumptuous disguises.
Battle of Washington
You may have recognized the costume of the man on the left. For the big occasion, he slipped into the clothes of George Washington, the first president of the United States, elected in 1789 and in office until 1797. Because, if he has long been considered as the unifier of the American nation, he has seen his popularity increase with the “team react” since the “team woke” likes to recall that George Washington owned slaves and that he fought the Native Americans between 1785 and 1795 as part of the War of the Little Turtle.
Tassel shoes
To pay him full homage, this man had done things well. He is wearing a three-cornered hat, George Washington’s favorite hat… He also wears shoes similar to those that men wore at the time. In this case, this laceless pair is so easy to take off and put on that it is referred to as the “lazyman”, basically lazy shoes.
Bikerized monarchy
Alongside George Washington stands another prominent figure in American history. If he is not president, he is king, King MAGA, the monarch of “Make American Great Again”, as it is written on the scarf that crosses his chest. Like “George Washington”, this one made an interesting choice of shoes. The engineered boots he is wearing, recognizable by their buckles and capped toes, tell us that this man is most likely a biker in real life. When he’s not in court, of course.
informal dress
Finally, note the presence of this individual who came to have a drink at the water fountain. Who does he play? What is its function ? And what major role did he play in American history? Hard to say, but allow us all the same a factual observation. Despite his soft-shouldered jacket cut from an extremely banal fabric and his pair of faded derbies with light soles, this character appears almost chic compared to the carpet on which he walks…
