Headline: Mikie Sherrill Rips into House Republicans at Local CTown Supermarket
Mikie Sherrill made quite the splash at the CTown supermarket in Perth Amboy on Friday morning. The Democratic congresswoman from CD-11 was there to criticize House Republicans for passing what Donald Trump calls a “big, beautiful bill.”
She wasn’t holding back, slamming the bill for cutting SNAP benefits and giving tax breaks to the wealthy. Sherrill also expressed concern about Trump’s tariffs causing market uncertainty and driving up food prices for everyone. The bill squeaked by with just one vote and is now headed to the Senate.
Sherrill didn’t stop there. She took a jab at Republicans in Washington, calling them out for having a “yes man” named Jack Ciattarelli. Ciattarelli, endorsed by Trump, is the front-runner for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in the June 10 primary. Despite this, polls show Sherrill leading the pack in the Democratic field. Looks like the general election is kicking off early this Memorial Day weekend.
The congresswoman outlined her plans to lower food prices if elected governor. She aims to tackle food monopolies, support small retailers, provide free school meals for underprivileged children, and assist local farmers. Sherrill received praise from local officials, with one describing her as a “mother with a plan.” With four children of her own, Sherrill understands the importance of affordable food access.
In a nod to Middlesex County’s Democratic leanings, Sherrill emphasized the need to perform well in the upcoming elections. She acknowledged Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin for his efforts to combat food deserts in the area. Middlesex County’s support will be crucial for Sherrill in June and beyond.
