Seville at Easter gives a lot. Two key moments of the Madrugá are the departure of Esperanza de Triana and that of Los Gitanos.
Shortly before two in the morning, the Triana brotherhood took to the streets, with the Christ of the Three Falls and the Virgin of Hope. Beneath the first, as every year, Francisco Rivera Ordóñez served as a proud costalero for a tour that ended at the Mariners’ Chapel around two in the afternoon on Good Friday.
The Rivera family met in these emotional moments that are lived in a neighborhood, that of Triana, which turns to its brotherhood.
Tana Rivera accompanied her sister Carmen, who at only 7 years old was already wearing the brotherhood’s Nazarene tunic. Also the little Curro. The two children, the result of the marriage formed by Francisco Rivera and Lourdes Montes, already have a heart as Triana as their father.
Among those who did not want to miss the return of the Triana brotherhood to their temple was the journalist Carlos Herrera, accompanied by his wife, Pepa Gea, -in what is their first Holy Week as husband and wife- and by their son, Alberto Herrera Huntsman. In addition to politicians such as the mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz -together with her husband, the writer Fernando Repiso-; the PP candidate for Seville mayor, José Luis Sanz, or the former president of the Junta de Andalucía, Susana Díaz.
Tana Rivera arrived in Triana in the morning after having been at the Palacio de Las Dueñas with her maternal family so as not to miss the traditional greeting that the Brotherhood of Los Gypsies makes every year to the Alba family.
Next to her, her boyfriend, Manu Vega, brother of Los Gitanos, who, like Tana, did a double in Madrugá, since he was also seen in the collection of Esperanza de Triana.
Numerous family members met in Dueñas: Eugenia Martínez de Irujo with her husband, Narcís Rebollo; Fernando Martínez de Irujo; Jacobo (son of the Count of Siruela) with his wife, Asela. And also Cayetano Martínez de Irujo, with his children Luis and Amina; his partner, Bárbara Mirjan, and his ex-wife, Genoveva Casanova. And the singer Pablo López with his partner, Laura Rubio, invited by Rebollo, president of Universal Music Spain.
With them, Fernando Fitz-James Stuart y Solís, Duke of Huéscar with his wife, Sofía Palazuelo, who has reappeared in Seville since he presented his daughter Sofía last January. The Duke of Huéscar himself was in charge of giving the call at the passage of Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Salud, the Christ of the Gypsies, for the ‘levantá’ so that he could continue his journey through the streets of Seville. A call that corresponds to the Duke of Alba -as Cayetana did in life-, if it were not for the fact that he was not seen in Dueñas, something that has surprised those who are aware of this tradition.
It was a very emotional moment that made Eugenia and Tana shed a few tears, since the foreman of the pass, Juanma Martín, wanted to dedicate a few words in memory of Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, the Duchess of Alba who helped the Brotherhood so much, even financing the construction of his temple among many other actions in his favor.
As tradition dictates, the gentlemen wear a dark suit and tie; the ladies in black. And it is also a tradition that on Holy Thursday morning the temples are visited. And that was also done by both the Alba and the Riveras. The first ones went to the church of Los Gitanos, where the remains of Cayetana de Alba rest. The seconds, to Triana. Also Eva González with her son Cayetano, yes, on her behalf and with friends, not with the Rivera family.
The streets of Seville, full of public. And the balconies too. In one of them, the businessman Rosauro Varo was seen with his partner, the actress Amaia Salamanca, who are regulars at Holy Week in Seville. A place where they shared devotion with his friend Miguel Báez ‘Litri’ and his wife, Casilda Ybarra, and with businessman José María Pacheco -president of Konecta-.
The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo traveled to Seville to meet his Holy Week, counting as hosts with the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, and with the popular candidate for Mayor, José Luis Sanz.
Feijóo toured different churches in Seville before the brotherhoods began their tours. The president of the PP went through the temples of San Benito, Los Estudiantes and La Bofetá, in addition to going to the hand kisser of the Great Power, signing the Book of Honor.
He also had time to enjoy Sevillian gastronomy at Casa Ricardo, where, in addition to tasting its famous croquettes, he ate adobo and Russian salad. And he left with a gift from the house: a pair of socks with croquette motifs from the Pepe Pinreles firm.
For his part, the president of the Board, Juanma Moreno, spent Palm Sunday in Seville, since his children were born as Nazarenes in the brotherhood of La Borriquita. In addition, together with his wife, Manu Villena, he toured the streets of the city to see more brotherhoods.
He also passed through Cádiz, together with Antonio Sanz (adviser to the Presidency of the Junta de Andalucía) and Bruno García (popular candidate for Mayor of Cadiz), visiting the church of San Agustín, headquarters of the Brotherhood of the Good Death, being received by the Governing Board of the same and praying a Hail in front of the passage of María Santísima del Mayor Dolor.
From there he moved to the Military Parish of Santo Ángel Custodio, to visit the brotherhood of the Expiration. From one point to another, he went for a walk, during which he received the love of many people from Cádiz. And also, Juanma Moreno being a great lover of dogs, of a splendid Siberian Husky that she did not hesitate to caress, as well as chat with his owner. During the tour, she did not miss a stop at the well-known Salón Italiano, a flagship ice cream parlor on Calle Ancha in the center of Cádiz, where she chose one of her most famous ice creams: topolino.
All this, before the family traveled to Malaga, since, as every year, before holding his current position as president, Moreno is one of the men on the throne who carry the images of the Fusionadas de San Juan brotherhood, in the that Manu Villena also leaves Nazarena.
