The leader of the Insoumis, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, launched a new tackle for the majority this Saturday, through a text published on his blog. “Nothing will stop the Macronist drift and the junction/competition with the extreme right, apart from the victory of the Nupes”, he writes, in a note denouncing at length the concept of “republican arc”, often invoked by the Macronist majority and which would exclude the Insoumis.

“Unable to formulate this junction out loud, because it would perhaps crumble the block of the so-called “center”, they (the macronists and LR, editor’s note) build a junction in fact. Its food is the dominant discourse aligned with the far right, its words, its values, its registers”, assures the Insoumis, lambasting both the word “decivilization” used by Emmanuel Macron and the words “ethnic regression”, used by the boss of senators LR Bruno Retailleau.

According to Mr. Mélenchon, this de facto alliance is expressed in “the demonization of the RN” and in “the permanent announcement of its imminent victory”. “But the strongest is the sidelining of LFI which functions as a common denominator. It’s their binder, their reason for mutual voting in the second round, ”he notes.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon also returns to the recent riots, following the death of young Nahel in Nanterre, killed by a policeman. “Nothing, absolutely nothing, nor any of the causes at the origin of the revolt will have been addressed, not a word will have been addressed to the popular suffering except the harsh and relentless repression”, he laments.

The Insoumis pinpoints in this sequence “the whole alignment of the parties of the so-called “republican arc”, this rancid collection of all the reactionaries, on the positions of the RN”, even evoking “a festival of racist declarations”. And the former deputy, who sees it as a movement at work throughout Europe, warns: “when the ‘republican arch’ and ‘national reconciliation’ coalitions have crushed everything around them, the various nationalisms of various countries will make a comeback”.

Mr. Mélenchon also reserves a few arrows for his Nupes allies, whom he accuses of relying on their internal differences, especially in view of the next European elections that the left is approaching in dispersed order.

“The PCF has already declared Nupes dead. The Greens […] want several lists “to have more elected”, the PS announces a list of “all socialists”. They know exactly what they’re doing and they can’t say they don’t understand what would come of it,” he said.
