The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated the red notice -extreme risk for outdoor activities- in areas of Córdoba and Jaén for this Monday because they will reach at least 44 degrees in the framework of the second heat wave of this summer.
This situation will occur because a ridge located to the east of the peninsula and on the North African coast facilitates the entry of a mass of very warm and dry air of Saharan origin over the western Mediterranean, which is already affecting the Balearic Islands.
The movement of that ridge to the west will bring the mass of very warm air closer to the south and east of the peninsula, which, together with the stability and high insolation characteristic of the time, will give rise to an episode of very high temperatures starting this Sunday and for several more days.
The Aemet prediction, collected by Servimedia, indicates that eight autonomous communities will be under warning this Sunday due to intense heat, with an orange alert -important risk- in Córdoba and Seville (40 degrees in the Campiña), Granada (40 in the Genil, Guadix and Baza), Huelva (39 along the coast) and Jaén (40 throughout the province).
The heat will tighten on Monday, the day on which there are already 12 communities notified. In particular, the red warning affects Córdoba (44 degrees in the Campiña) and Jaén (44 in Sierra Morena, El Condado and the Guadalquivir valley).
In addition, areas of 15 provinces will be under an orange warning this Monday, including Albacete (40 degrees in La Mancha), Badajoz (40 in Las Vegas del Guadiana, La Siberia, Barros and Serena), Cáceres (40 in the Tagus and the Alagón, and 39 in Villuercas and Montánchez), Cádiz (40 in the Campiña), Ciudad Real (between 41 and 42), Córdoba (41 in the mountains, Los Pedroches and Subbética), Cuenca (39 to 41) and Granada (41 Guadix, Baza and the Genil basin).
The same occurs with Guadalajara (39 in the Alcarria), Jaén (43 in the Cazorla and Segura mountains, and 41 in the capital and the mountains), Madrid (40 except in the mountains), Málaga (40 in Antequera and Ronda) , Seville (43 in the Campiña and 41 in the Sierra Sur), Toledo (from 40 to 42) and the island of Mallorca (39 in the interior).
