Gérald Darmanin, who is organizing his political comeback on August 27 on the theme of “the working classes” in his electoral stronghold of Tourcoing, “is worried” with Le Figaro about “what will happen in 2027”, while portraying himself as the suitable man for this presidential election.
“What interests me is no longer looking at what happened in 2017 and 2022. What worries me now is what will happen in 2027”, insists in an interview with the daily the Minister of the Interior. “We should not put our future in the hands of technology and technicians by using words that the French do not always understand. We must speak with the heart, not with statistics,” he continues, exhausting those who in his eyes represent “the bobo-liberal left” in government.
Gérald Darmanin, who campaigned in vain to replace Elisabeth Borne at Matignon in July, considers that “if the answer of the next presidential candidate (of the majority) is to rely on case law and international markets, then he will acknowledge that the political will is now only among the extremes”. “We will lose the election and Marine Le Pen will be elected,” he warns.
The elected representative from the North says “to think like Ruffin (La France insoumise) and Roussel (French Communist Party) that it is the social question which is the most important”. “I was rather in the minority for the moment on the importance of the social question but I hope that the popular compass that I propose will one day be fully heard by the majority”, continues the minister.
To do this, he makes an appointment at his back-to-school meeting in Tourcoing, where nearly 400 people are expected, including 90 parliamentarians: “After six years in government, I am happy to answer the call of my friends who urge to affirm a little more the popular compass that I am proposing”.
