A big ol’ shoutout to the Gateway Development Commission (GDC) for announcing at their Board meeting that the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing – Section 3 (HYCC-3) Project is more than halfway done and should be wrapped up by 2026. Can I get a heck yeah? This project is all about connecting the new Hudson Tunnel to New York Penn Station, and let me tell you, it’s a massive deal. The other two sections of the concrete casing were finished back in 2018, but this bad boy is approximately 500 feet long, 60 feet wide, and 60 feet deep. That’s one deep hole, folks.
Construction of the HYCC-3 Project is really making things happen, supporting a whopping 4,820 jobs and bringing in a cool $986 million in economic output. And get this, the entire Hudson Tunnel Project is expected to support a staggering 95,000 jobs and drive $19.6 billion in economic activity. That’s some serious cash flow right there.
In a joint statement, Alicia Glen, Balpreet Grewal-Virk, and Tony Coscia, all big shots at the GDC, were patting themselves on the back for reaching this major milestone. They talked about how important it is to have reliable train service, and how finishing the HYCC-3 Project on time and within budget is a huge step towards fixing those pesky delays that have been plaguing us all. GDC CEO Tom Prendergast also chimed in, bragging about how this project is basically like 10 projects rolled into one. He’s pumped to keep the momentum going and get this thing done.
Amtrak President Roger Harris was also feeling the love, talking about how proud he is of everyone working together to make this happen. They’re all looking forward to tackling the rest of this massive infrastructure project and showing off what good ol’ American teamwork can achieve.
Now, let’s talk about the nitty-gritty details. Five out of the 10 construction projects that are part of the HTP are currently underway, creating a whopping 20,200 jobs and bringing in $4.5 billion in economic activity. And get this, 94% of the spending is expected to come from American companies. That’s what I like to hear.
The Tonnelle Ave Bridge and Utility Relocation Project is almost done, and it’s all about getting those Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) up and running. The Hudson River Ground Stabilization Project is mixing up some concrete to make sure those TBMs have a solid path to follow. The Palisades Tunnel Project is gearing up to start boring through some earth in 2026, while the Manhattan Tunnel Project is getting ready to build a whole new section of tunnel. It’s all happening, folks.
So there you have it, folks. The Hudson Yards Concrete Casing – Section 3 Project is well on its way to completion, and everyone involved is feeling pretty darn good about it. Let’s keep the momentum going and get this thing done. It’s all about building a better future, one concrete casing at a time.
