Shortly before the deadline, many property owners have not yet submitted their property tax returns. The Ministry of Finance appeals to all owners to do so as soon as possible.
Dresden (dpa / sn) – In Saxony, only half of the expected property tax returns have been received so far. This was announced by the Ministry of Finance on Friday. According to the information, owners only have until the end of the month to submit their declaration to the tax authorities.
“There are not four weeks left to submit the property tax return. I appeal to all owners: please complete the tax return promptly. There will be no further extension of the deadline,” said Saxon Finance Minister Hartmut Vorjohann. “Anyone who needs help with the declaration will be happy to support our Saxon tax offices,” said the CDU politician.
In principle, the declarations are to be submitted electronically. However, people without the necessary technology can also use paper forms provided by the tax authorities. If you have any questions, owners should either get information on the property tax website or use the property tax hotlines and property tax consultation hours that have been set up.
The tax offices in Saxony have revalued around two million properties and plots of land and issued corresponding notices. These are then the basis for the decisions of the municipalities on their so-called assessment rates. They determine the amount of the new property tax, which is due from January 1, 2025.
In February 2021, Saxony’s state parliament decided to reform the property tax. The basis for the new regulation was a judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court of April 2018. According to this, the previous standard values, which had remained unchanged for decades, had to be replaced by new assessment bases. The federal states could make their own regulations, which Saxony made use of.
