After the flat route of the previous day through the province of Valencia, the Vuelta a España 2023 returns to the mountains. Stage 8 of the round takes place this Saturday, September 2, with a pulse of 165 kilometers between Dénia and Xorret de Catí.
The assault on the interior of the Costa Blanca (Alicante) consists of five stages: one port of third category (Tollos), three of second (Vall d’Ebro, Benifallim and Carrasqueta) and, to finish the day, one of first (Xorret from Catí). Les Marines, Els Poblets, Pego, Puerto de la Vall d’Ebo, Alcalà de la Jovada and Beniaia are some of the towns where the multicolored snake will pass.
With 800 kilometers accumulated in the legs with the first week of competition almost complete, the eighth stage can be very demanding for some riders. The profile of the route invites us to think about a possible escape, so the most powerful teams are obliged to control the race to avoid sinking in the classification.
The last slopes of Xorret de Catí can make the difference on this day. It should be noted that, despite the fact that the peloton will cross the finish line at an altitude of 900 metres, it is not a high altitude finish (between Castalla and Petrer).
The next stage is also presented as a demanding challenge, an 184.5-kilometer mid-mountain route between Cartagena and Collado de la Cruz de Caravaca. This will be the last battle before the participants of La Vuelta take Monday as a rest day before competing in the Valladolid time trial.
Stage 8 of the Vuelta a España 2023 (Dénia – Xorret de Catí), which takes place this Saturday, September 2, is broadcast live on television between Teledeporte and La 1 from 2:50 p.m. Likewise, you can follow the stage minute by minute through EL MUNDO live.
