The year 2023 is already one to forget for coach Jürgen Klopp. His Liverpool FC is still waiting for the next win. Against the relegation candidates Wolverhampton Wanderers there is the next away bankruptcy and it is surprisingly clear.
Liverpool FC suffered another bitter away defeat in the English Premier League and will have to wait for their first success in 2023. Coach Jürgen Klopp’s team deservedly lost 3-0 (2-0) at Wolverhampton Wanderers, who were in danger of relegation. Liverpool’s defeat was initiated after five minutes by a Joel Matip own goal. Shortly thereafter, Craig Dawson scored (12th minute). After a weak first half, Liverpool increased the pressure in the second half, but the Reds rarely became dangerous. Ruben Neves (71st) finally made everything clear.
For Liverpool, who are eliminated from the FA Cup and the League Cup, the crisis is deepening. For the Reds it was the third away defeat in a row with three goals conceded – and the fourth winless league game in a row. In the table, the Klopp team, who played one game less than the competition, fell to tenth place.
With the first defeat after 154 days, Arsenal FC involuntarily made the race for the championship exciting again. The Gunners lost 0-1 (0-0) at Everton and are only five points ahead of Manchester City after 20 games. The defending champion could reduce to two points on Sunday (5:30 p.m. / Sky) with a win at Tottenham Hotspur. James Tarkowski (60th) scored the decisive goal for Everton with a header. It sealed Arsenal’s second Premier League defeat of the season, following a 3-1 loss at Manchester United on 4 September.
United, meanwhile, beat Crystal Palace with goals from Bruno Fernandes from the penalty spot (7′) and Marcus Rashford (62′). United’s Casemiro saw a red card in the 70th minute after assaulting Will Hughes and being checked by the video assistant. Jeffrey Schlupp scored the first goal for Crystal Palace (76′). However, the guests could not do more from the majority. Austria’s Sabitzer, who joined Manchester United on loan from Bayern Munich this week, was on the bench most of the time at Old Trafford and only came on for Antony in the 81st minute.
