The President of the Government of the Canary Islands and Secretary General of the Canary Islands Coalition (CC), Fernando Clavijo, reiterated this Tuesday his proposal for an “agreement” to “unblock” governance in exchange for compliance with a “Canary Islands agenda” and that the PNV hold the presidency or vice presidency of Congress.

Clavijo believes that the crucial vote on the composition of the Congress Table, which will take place on Thursday, will not be unblocked until “the last minute”, and that only an “axis with the PNV and the Canary Islands Coalition” would open a satisfactory path for the legislature . “An agreement with the PNV and the Canary Islands Coalition can provide the future Government of Spain with stability”, he defended in statements to journalists after the act of the Virgin of Candelaria in Tenerife.

The Canary Coalition vote could be crucial, since it is the one that undoes the tie between blocks, waiting for what Junts per Catalunya decides. Right now the PSOE has 171 seats tied up, the same ones that Alberto Núñez Feijóo already has on its side. In the PP they believe that they have the support of CC very close -they govern the community together-, but they do not take it 100% for granted. If the Canarian nationalists finally supported Pedro Sánchez, it would no longer be necessary for Junts to vote in favor of him. At the investiture, abstention would suffice.

Of course, Clavijo has not wanted to detail whether his proposal for a global pact, both for Congress and for the investiture, is directed at the PSOE, the PP or both at the same time. “The two blocks do not add up on their own, then they have to sit down, talk, talk and be generous,” he said. “Now it’s up to others to decide if the proposal that we have launched from the Canarian Coalition is picked up or not,” he added.

Asked about his preference when choosing a block, the insular regional president has put himself in profile: “Others have to pick up the glove or not. Who takes the glove? Well, it belongs to others.”

For Clavijo, it is crucial that governance go through “nationalist Spain.” “Not everything is blue or red, there is a third Spain”. In this sense, in exchange for their support, they demand to solve the “problems” of the Canaries, with support measures in view of the increase in immigration, subsidize salary increases that improve labor agreements, a great pact for youth, comply with the Regime Economic and Fiscal or co-management of ports and airports.

“The Canaries need the State and a stable government that is capable of responding to the problems that all of us canaries have. It is up to the political forces to speak, dialogue, reach agreements and if we put the general interest and the citizenry above all else, I am convinced that this is possible”, Clavijo has had an impact, for whom those who “put other interests ahead of the generals or those of Spain will have to answer for themselves”.
