“Metallica Madrid may 2019”. Search on the internet produce the expected results: track entries for the concert of the group the next year in the grounds of Valdebebas, originally at a nominal price of 95 euros, which are sold at a minimum of 130 and to reach the 672 euros.
fans of live music are used to situations of this type every time that a great musical event coming to Spain, whether it’s U2, Rolling Stones, Alejandro Sanz or any other great name of the national and international scene. But not all protests or calls to boycott the pages of resale have put an end to the speculation with the tickets shows.
The industry claims regulation and it seems that it will end up in Spain. However, it will not mean the end of the pages of resale. In fact, these websites have been seen contained in the report and its proposals, such as measures against bots, the programs of the automated purchase that use so-called brokers to acquire a large number of entries, and then speculate with them.
The Sectorial Conference of Culture, which brings together the Ministry of José Guirao with representatives of the autonomous communities, presented this Tuesday a report for the implementation of a policy regarding the resale of tickets. The minister disclosed its contents during his appearance at the Commission of Culture and Sports of the Senate, last Monday.
“In 2017 was commissioned that it be made an opinion. It has been done and, from what I have read, is pretty good. What we will study in the next Conference, on the 30th of this month, and we will incorporate the Ministry of the Interior – which had not joined in their moment, last year, when it was formed – because it has to weigh in on these issues. And as a result of what you say the Conference, we will see the appropriate legal action,” explained Guirao in parliament.
According to the minister, “there are legal measures in Europe to suit all tastes, from a total ban on the resale online to be conditional to a number of reasons”. Watching the report, his impression is “that would be measures of this type, not radical”, which will try to reach a consensus.
For the preparation of the report, the Ministry of Culture and Sports has received the proposals of different representatives of the industry, from promoters music at the Alliance of Artists Antirreventa, passing by the SGAE, the business of ticketing and up to the pages of ticket resale, such as Stubhub.
The proposal comes at a particularly delicate moment for the market. Last August, Ticketmaster, the largest company worldwide ticket sales, announced the closing of Seatwave, a platform dedicated to the resale. “We have heard your requests and we have listened: the sites of secondary market no longer do I convince and we know that you are tired of seeing how other people buy tickets only to sell them and to obtain an economic benefit,” announced the company in a press release. “All we want is that you, the fan, you can buy tickets for the show you want.’
however, shortly after, an investigation of the canadian media CBC and Toronto Star carried out through journalists infiltrated a convention in Las Vegas revealed that Ticketmaster, far from putting an end to this practice, adiestraba to resellers and to put at your disposal an application, the TradeDesk. This has led to a class-action lawsuit against the company and an investigation in the U.S. senate against the parent of Ticketmaster, Live Nation.
