Until shortly before his death, Tim Lobinger kept spreading optimism. And apparently he was actually always in a good mood. This is reported by his ex-wife. In an interview, she also talks about the last hours in the life of the former world-class athlete.
According to his former partner Alina Lobinger, former pole vaulter Tim Lobinger was hospitalized shortly before his death. “Until the end he was in a good mood,” said the journalist, who has a son with the athlete, the magazine “Bunte”. In the past few months, the athlete had repeatedly reported via Instagram and given updates on his health. There were often encouraging messages – despite the knowledge that they were terminally ill. His ex-wife continued: “It was only when the pain became unbearable that he was taken to the hospital and put into an artificial coma.”
The former world-class athlete died last week after a long illness at the age of 50. “We were all with him when he took his last breath,” said Alina Lobinger. The journalist and the pole vaulter had married in 2011, but according to “Bunte” they separated in 2016. According to the report, eight close confidants had been in the hospital at the bed of the former athlete, including soccer star Joshua Kimmich and his wife Lina.
Kimmich and Lobinger were close friends. Accordingly, the Bayern star said goodbye to his friend on Instagram. “I admired you more than anyone else. I’ve always looked up to you because you are an inspiration and a role model for me in all walks of life.” Among other things, Lobinger worked as a personal trainer for the Munich player.
Most recently, there was a moving commemoration for Lobinger at the German Indoor Championships. The pole vault participants paid tribute to the deceased with a special event: Torben Blech held up a jersey with Lobinger’s start number and also presented a baton of the first German 6-meter vaulter when introducing the field of participants. The approximately 3,000 spectators in the Helmut-Körnig-Halle applauded for a long time.
