The lack of some results of the DNA tests makes it impossible for the police report on the murder and dismemberment of the Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta, confessed by the Spanish Daniel Sancho, to be delivered to the Prosecutor’s Office this week, according to a police source said on Thursday. EFE.
The police station on the island of Phangan, in southern Thailand and where the crime took place on August 2, has received “some results of the DNA tests, but not all,” said one of the agents in charge of the investigation without offer more details.
The agent affirmed that consequently “it is not possible” to deliver the police report to the Prosecutor’s Office on Friday, as he had anticipated on Monday in an interview with EFE Surachate Hakparn, number two of the Thai Police and who supervises the case against the Spaniard.
Surachate, known as Big Joke, stated that they already had “sufficient evidence” and that he expected the report to be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office this week, so that the trial could begin in three to six months. The Phangan agent justified today that “many” tests have been sent to be analyzed, without specifying how many.
According to a police document, among them are articles of clothing, eight human parts as well as black and green plastic bags where human remains were found, and which have been sent for analysis to the Bangkok Institute of Forensic Medicine, among other specialized centers. .
Among the incriminating evidence against Sancho, the Thai Police claims to have CCTV images that show the young man buying knives and black and green garbage bags at a store on the island on August 1, a day before the crime.
The police investigation is supervised by the media “Big Joke”, and some 30 people have come to participate in it, including agents, investigators, forensic doctors and divers, who help search the sea for Arrieta’s remains that have not yet been found.
The Police have 84 days for the investigation, starting on August 7, and the Prosecutor’s Office could still make use of that period if the police report is submitted before the deadline to study the case and, if necessary, request more tests.
The term began when Sancho entered provisional detention in the Koh Samui prison on August 7, where he is expected to remain until the trial, although later, depending on the sentence, he could be transferred to a prison with greater security measures.
Sancho is accused by the Police of premeditated murder, after he himself confessed to having killed and dismembered Arrieta when he was interrogated at the Koh Phangan police station on August 5.
Sancho and Arrieta, who met in 2022 through Instagram, had met in Koh Phangan on August 2, the day on which the murder and dismemberment of the surgeon took place in a hotel reserved by the Spanish next to Salad beach, whose remains were scattered throughout various places on the island and the sea.
