Former Premier League legend and Euro 2024 pundit, Cesc Fabregas, has officially been named the manager of Serie A newcomers Como after completing his coaching badges. The 37-year-old played a crucial role in helping Como secure promotion to Serie A after a 21-year absence last season. Initially serving as the caretaker manager and part owner of the Italian club, Fabregas stepped into the role of No.2 to finish his coaching education. Now, after signing a four-year contract, he is set to lead Como in the top flight.

Welsh coach Osian Roberts, who was the head coach with Fabregas’ support, will resume his role as head of development. Fabregas expressed his excitement about the opportunity, stating, “I am so happy to be starting this season as head coach and I thank the ownership group for trusting me with this position. I share the ambitions of the group and believe this is just the start of where this club can go. It’s going to be a tough and important season but myself and the rest of the coaching staff are ready and we all believe.”

Mirwan Suwarso, official representative of the ownership group, also expressed his delight at appointing Fabregas as head coach, highlighting the impact of his knowledge, experience, and passion on the team’s success. Como, owned by the Hartono brothers, are the wealthiest club in the Italian league and are aiming to strengthen their squad with notable signings to ensure survival in Serie A. They are eyeing defender Raphael Varane on a free transfer, Pau Lopez from Marseille on loan, and have already welcomed former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

In addition to Reina, Como has secured the signing of left-back Alberto Moreno, who was released by Villarreal. Moreno, a former Liverpool player, brings experience and depth to the squad. The club is determined to bolster their roster with quality players to compete at the highest level in Serie A.

Como’s ambitious plans and Fabregas’ appointment as the head coach mark a new chapter for the club as they prepare to make their mark in the Italian top flight. With a blend of seasoned professionals and promising talents, Como aims to establish themselves as a competitive force in Serie A under Fabregas’ leadership. The upcoming season promises to be an exciting journey for the club and its fans as they strive for success in the highly competitive league.
