Invited to the back-to-school meeting of her Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne called this Sunday, August 27 for “unity” of the majority to “produce results” and fight “populists”, while by praising the record of Emmanuel Macron and his governments for six years.

“The time ahead of us must be all about action and hard groundwork to deliver results. This is how we will fight the populists and the extremes by leaving their demagogic recipes to them”, declared the Prime Minister at the end of the day organized by the Minister of the Interior, who recently judged victory “fairly probable”. of Marine Le Pen in the presidential election of 2027.

“Our unity is our strength, we must protect it at all costs, it is the condition to continue to act and not pave the way to extremes ourselves. This unity, behind the President of the Republic and his project, I care about it, I watch over it and I guarantee it, ”insisted Elisabeth Borne.

“I really hadn’t planned to spend this last weekend of August in Tourcoing” for this “informal event”, had started the head of government, who only announced on Saturday her coming to the North while Mr. Darmanin has launched a political and media offensive for several weeks.

If “the question of the extreme right and its progression in our democracies is at the heart of our reflections”, “we can be proud of what has been accomplished over the past six years”, she argued, listing the duplication of CP and CE1 in priority neighborhoods, the abolition of the housing tax, the automatic payment of alimony or the creation of 10,000 additional police and gendarme positions.

But we must “remain humble”, “because difficulties persist, and the French are asking us to do more and better”, added Elisabeth Borne. Gérald Darmanin brought together a dozen ministers, several dozen parliamentarians from the majority and a few LR, centrist and independent parliamentarians in Tourcoing on Sunday for an afternoon of debate devoted to the “working classes”.

In his concluding speech, before the Prime Minister, he again put forward “the only valid question, the social question”. merchants, in a word workers, is a matter of great concern, that doubt has long settled in them and in their children, “said Mr. Darmanin.

“Part of the French from working-class backgrounds are now massively abstaining from the elections and have sent dozens of parliamentarians from the National Rally to the Assembly. Not (…) out of conviction alone, but because they are once again giving a red flag to those who govern them,” he continued. “The solution is not in a technical response, but first in the behavior of the woman or the politician, in a certain disposition to listen”, said Gérald Darmanin who, for the rest, has largely defended the record of Emmanuel Macron and the government.
