The Lafayette Fire Department issued an open fire ban within city limits on Tuesday, officials said in a city news release.
The announcement to broaden the existing red flag warning issued by the National Weather service in Boulder comes after two separate blazes on Monday burned a combined 180 acres on both sides of Longmont.
With the continued grass fire danger, officials said, fireworks, open burning and open fire pits are prohibited in Lafayette until further notice.
Covered barbecue grills, chimeneas Betboo and covered residential fire pits operated on concrete are allowed.
Boulder County is automatically in fire restrictions anytime dry and windy conditions result in a red flag warning, a high wind warning or a fire weather watch warning, the Boulder County Sheriff’s office reminded residents in a news release Tuesday afternoon. No open burning is allowed anywhere in the unincorporated areas of the county under such conditions.
Residents should refrain from outdoor activities such as field mowing, recreational shooting, welding and operating heavy equipment that could cause a spark, according to the release.
