The Russian Police have arrested a former member of the Wagner mercenary group who denounced last week mass murders of civilians in the Ukrainian cities of Bakhmut and Soledar at the hands of that armed formation, according to what the organization Gulagu.net, which defends human rights, reported today. of the Russian prisoners.
“Agents of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained Azamat Uldarov and took him to the investigation department (…) of the Saratov region for interrogation,” said the exiled founder of Gulagu.net, Vladimir Osechkin, on his Telegram channel.
According to the human rights defender, at the entrance to the apartment “four fighters from the Wagner group were waiting for him, who in the presence of the agents of the Ministry of the Interior hit Azamat in the face and tore off his identification plate.”
“They promised to kill him for his statements against Yevgeny Prigozhin (founder and head of Wagner) and Vladimir (Iceman) Kitáyev (commander of the formation),” Osechkin added.
The police then pushed him into a cabinet under the pretense of protecting him and interrogating him about the crimes he had witnessed, according to the founder of Gulagu.net.
Osechkin pointed out that Uldarov managed to communicate with him before the police demanded that he turn off his cell phone and accused the Wagner members who were in the unit of not only threatening him, but of being ready to kill him “by order of Prigozhin”.
Earlier this week Osechkin posted on the Gulagu.net YouTube channel an interview with two members of the Wagner group, recruited by Prigozhin from Russian prisons, in which they claimed to have participated in mass murders of civilians, including minors.
On the 20th, Prigozhin demanded that the Russian Justice open criminal cases against both former mercenaries for defaming the Russian Army and against Osechkin for extorting his interviewees.
