The King has given his approval for the consecration of Reverend Canon Andrew Norman as the Suffragan Bishop in the Diocese in Europe, taking over from the retiring Right Reverend David Hamid.

Andrew Norman, currently serving as the Director of Ministry and Mission for the Diocese of Leeds, has an impressive background. He received his education from University College, Oxford, Selwyn College, Cambridge, and the University of Birmingham. His ministry training took place at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, and Virginia Theological Seminary. He was ordained as a priest in 1996 and began his ministry at St Michael’s Church in Paris within the Diocese in Europe.

Following his time in Paris, Andrew served in the benefice of Clifton in Bristol. In 2002, he was appointed as the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Assistant Secretary for Ecumenical and Anglican Communion Affairs. He later moved up to the position of Archbishop’s Principal Secretary for International, Ecumenical, and Anglican Communion Affairs in 2005.

From 2008 to 2016, Andrew held the position of Principal at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. During this time, he also received honorary canonries at Canterbury and Ely Cathedrals. In 2017, he transitioned to his current role as the Director of Ministry and Mission in the newly-established Diocese of Leeds. Additionally, he was appointed as an honorary canon at Wakefield Cathedral.

Before pursuing his calling to ministry, Andrew, who hails from a family of dairy farmers, worked for De La Rue, the world’s largest commercial printer of banknotes.
