Dieter Hecking has taken over. The previous sports director should now, as an interim coach, protect 1. FC Nürnberg from falling into the third division. He takes responsibility for the team.
Nuremberg (dpa / lby) – After the separation from Markus Weinzierl at 1. FC Nuremberg, sports director and interim coach Dieter Hecking (58) also took responsibility for the squad of the Franconian second division soccer team. “The team also has a certain share in the fact that we are sitting here and I have to philosophize about the dismissal of the coach for the second time,” said Hecking at a press conference. “There are some who, in my opinion, are playing well under form.”
Hecking believes “that this squad gives more football than what it shows”. The crisis club parted ways with its previous coach Weinzierl on Monday, one day after the 5-0 defeat against 1. FC Heidenheim. The 48-year-old took over as the successor to Robert Klauss, who was on leave, last October.
In his new double function, Hecking should save the relegation-threatened team until the end of the season. “I will not be allowed to let the team out of its responsibilities – neither as a sports director nor as a coach in recent weeks,” he said.
In its current form, 1. FC Nürnberg must be very concerned about staying up in the league. The crisis team is 13th in the table with 22 points after 21 matchdays, but is only two points ahead of relegation rank 16. “We’re in the middle of a relegation battle,” Hecking said.
Next Saturday (1.00 p.m.) FCN will welcome the bottom of the table from Sandhausen in a crisis duel, who will now put Tomas Oral on the coaching bench after the separation from coach Alois Schwartz on Sunday. So far there have been seven trainer releases in this second division season.
