At the age of 78, former Chancellor Schröder has to take care of his health. An Instagram post from his wife reveals that she does it for him. Since the beginning of the year there has only rarely been the beloved currywurst, and even the evening wine is passé. That is having an effect.
According to an Instagram post by his wife, former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder was prescribed a change in diet. Soyeon Schröder-Kim wrote about two portrait photos: “After and before the VOLUNTARY change in diet”. After the word “VOLUNTEERS” she put a wink smiley. The new nutrition plan seems to be working: the 78-year-old looks much slimmer in the portrait that is supposed to show him after the adjustment with a little currywurst and lots of vegetables than in a comparison picture.
Many users praised Schröder and wrote: “Wow, 10 years younger!” or “class and respect for staying power”. When asked, the 52-year-old also revealed the new menu: “In the morning: oatmeal and oat milk with fresh fruit. At lunchtime: fish and lots of vegetables or occasionally meat. In the evening: mainly artichokes. Dessert: natural yoghurt with cocoa nibs and pumpkin seeds.” He also “largely” omits wine – and “mostly” even the currywurst, “curry (turmeric) definitely NOT”. She announced the change at the beginning of January.
Schröder’s fondness for currywurst has long been known. In 2002, when he was Chancellor, he also ordered currywurst and apple strudel for George W. Bush, but according to his manager at the time he was said to have shown more appetite than the US President. When the dish disappeared from the company restaurant in the Volkswagen brand high-rise in Wolfsburg in 2021, the former member of the LinkedIn Supervisory Board was annoyed: “Currywurst with fries is one of the power bars of skilled workers in production. It should stay that way.”
