During the summer break, Kylian Mbappé remains present on the field… of the transfer window. The new captain of the France team animates the “transfers” sections of the sports press. For good reason, the 2018 world champion has already announced that he will not extend his contract beyond his lease, which runs until 2024. This decision puts Paris Saint-Germain under pressure. Either the club agrees to sell the footballer (Real Madrid, competitor for the title in the Champions League, is in the starting blocks), or it lets go, free, its player that it had bought 180 million euros.
Paris obviously does not intend to sit on such an investment. As such, Nasser al-Khelaïfi, president of the French champion club, announced the color: “My position is very clear. I don’t want to repeat myself every time: if Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract. We don’t want to let the best player in the world go for free. It’s impossible. That’s why he has to decide next week, or at most in two weeks. And, if he does not want to sign a new contract, the door is open”, he announced this Wednesday, July 5 on the sidelines of the presentation of the new Parisian coach, Luis Enrique.
If Mbappé were to leave this summer, the French would have a cost, and not the least. Le Parisien figures a potential transfer of Bondy’s child between 200 and 250 million euros, which could make it the largest financial transaction between two clubs in history (the record being held by the 222 million spent by Paris in 2017 to snatch Neymar from FC Barcelona). Paris mainly reacted via a letter on July 3, the newspaper L’Équipe announced on Thursday, the same process that Mbappé had used for his non-extension.
In a three-page document, PSG deplores the “enormous prejudice” and the “damage caused” by the public announcement of the Blue. “How do you expect a club to position themselves this summer knowing that the player does not want to renew in a year? If he changed his mind, no problem, but it should have remained in private and we could have settled it, between us, this summer”, can we read.
These different ultimatums left by the Parisian club to the French player are not to the taste of the Mbappé clan, in particular his mother Fayza Lamari. According to Jeune Afrique, the latter even called Nasser al-Khalaïfi a “big liar”. The divorce seems to be more and more consummated between the international and his team. Real Madrid, who dream of enlisting him, but also the English of Liverpool remain on the lookout to win the superstar of World Football.
