Mateo Correas Simón, student and athlete, died on February 4 at the age of 21 in Italy after being hit by a car as he was leaving an Erasmus party.
Time has passed and his family, given the lack of information about what really happened on the day of the accident, asks for help through social networks “to understand what happened.”
They ask for photos and videos of the party, as well as any clues that allow them to know who their son was with that night and who were the last people to see him.
His mother, Lola Simón Martín, has posted the following message on social networks: “A broken life, dozens of lives destroyed. If you have photos, videos of the party on February 4-5, please contact us. Help us understand what happened.”
And he adds: “They say that social networks move mountains. And I believe so. So, at this point, I ask you for the widest dissemination that we can do, especially in Spain and Italy. I hope to move some conscience… .”
Various Italian media have echoed her message and it has also been picked up by El Periódico de Aragón, to whom the mother has stated: “My son went, with several friends, to an Erasmus party and we would like that, if anyone has Photos of that party, you could send them to us. With an image, perhaps we can know who my son was with that night and that is the appeal we make to have a minimal clue.
“Why was my son on that highway? Who were the last people who saw him? We don’t know anything. His group of friends here is helping us a lot and I know that the message has also reached Italy. For peace of mind spiritual, we need to know what happened.
Mateo Correas, a student at the School of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Zaragoza, was doing an Erasmus in Belgium but on the day of the accident he spent a weekend in Italy, invited by some friends.
He was in the town of Casamassima to participate in the party organized at Villa Casale, a venue owned by an Italian millionaire family where private events and other celebrations are held, such as weddings.
He was hit by a vehicle while walking alone at dawn on state highway 100, near Adelfua, in the province of Bari. The driver of the vehicle that struck him apparently stopped to help him, but the emergency services were unable to do anything to save his life.
The Carabinieri, coordinated by the Bari Prosecutor’s Office, opened an investigation to find out the circumstances of the outrage, but, apparently, the investigations are not advancing when it comes to clarifying the doubts.
In addition to the University of Zaragoza, the news of the death of Mateo Correas caused great consternation in the world of water polo and especially in the swimming section of the Casablanca Stadium in the Aragonese capital, since both he and his family have been lifelong linked to said club.
The president of Aragon, Javier Lambán, wrote on his Twitter account: “My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mateo Correas. A terrible accident has upended the life of this young man from Zaragoza. I send a big hug and a word of encouragement To his family.”
