It has been quite a challenging year for Erne Gaels captain Ryan Lyons since his last appearance on the field at Brewster Park for the County Final. Within the past 11 months, he embraced fatherhood with the birth of his son, Luan, and faced a setback due to an injury that kept him away from football for eight long months.
On April 16, Lyons underwent surgery at The Princess Grace Hospital in London to mend his hamstring. The road to recovery was filled with rigorous rehabilitation, including a month in a brace and on crutches, under the guidance of Fermanagh physio Mark Hoy. Despite initially hoping to return to the county team, Lyons eventually shifted his focus to Belleek as the weeks went by.
His comeback match against Devenish in the 7th round of the league ended in a dismissal with a second yellow card for what he admitted as overly aggressive tackles. Undeterred, he persevered and played his first full game against Kinawley the following week.
