Forum tipped the balance this Monday in favor of the PSOE in Asturias, giving clues about how parliamentary balances will be configured in the legislature that has just begun. Thanks to the support of the only regionalist deputy, Adrián Pumares, the PSOE presides over the Table of the General Meeting of the Principality without having to go through a second vote. A relevant gesture for the Socialists, who with 19 deputies will need another four to reach a majority over the next four years. They work in the stable support of the three of Izquierda Unida, who in return aspire to enter the Government with responsibilities of economic weight. In the exchange, the Socialists today gave a position to IU in the governing body of the Junta.
Precisely, the election of Juan Cofiño to preside over the Board is seen as a facilitating factor for this future coexistence. He was vice president and right-hand man of Adrián Barbón, who thus places a person of his absolute confidence at the head of the Chamber while avoiding tensions with his partners on the left, who last week held a significant meeting with the Asturian Federation of Businessmen (FADE ). Cofiño received the votes in favor of PSOE, IU and Foro. The PP candidate, José Manuel Felgueres, the 17 of his party companions; the one from Vox, Gonzalo Centeno, all four of his own. Podemos voted blank.
The seat that the socialists lack can sometimes be on the right, in the Forum, or on the left, in Podemos. Both paths have their twists and turns. The purple deputy, Cova Tomé, calls for a “progressive and stable” government, in an appeal to both the Socialists and her partners in Sumar, without being clear how the differences within her own party will be resolved.
With this Monday’s movement, the disposition of the forum members has become clear and Pumares has confirmed it by confirming that he will abstain in the investiture session of Adrián Barbón. He did remember that he hopes to “influence every law, every policy and every budget project.” The question now is whether the PSOE, which has lost the Mayor’s Office of Gijón by virtue of the Forum agreement with PP and Vox, will seek out the regionalists or Podemos. Adriana Lastra, who leads the PSOE list to Congress, described it as a “pact of shame.”
In order to smooth future collaborations with the Socialists and to appease the rain of internal criticism that the Gijón alliance has generated, two signals have been launched in the last few hours. On the one hand, Pumares, who had already expressed his “discomfort” with what happened in the main Asturian city, described Vox’s proposal to veto artists who sing in Asturian as “insane”. “It is evident that it does not comply with the law and it will not be carried out,” he said.
On the other hand, this Monday it was learned that the headquarters of the Gijón City Council will be illuminated with the rainbow flag on June 28 and 29 on the occasion of International LGTBI Pride Day, an especially notable fact since the Department of Celebrations depends on Vox. Last Saturday, the mayoress, the forum member Carmen Moriyón, was not invited to the demonstration of the Orgullín del Norte, the central act of the protest activities of this group.
